Generation gap

Hi guys!

Recently I’ve been talking to my parents and the differences between our two generations is shocking.

I feel that over all, the older generations are much more close minded about race, gender and sexuality. I was talking to my mum about my friend who I am going to a concert with soon, and she wouldn’t stop referring to him as my boyfriend, despite me telling her over and over again that he is gay. She said that he was just ‘confused’ and ‘going through a phase’ and I just thought it was so rude and disrespectful of my own mother so say these things about a boy who she has never met, and has no idea what he’s like. It doesn’t bother me that he is gay, and I don’t think it should bother anyone else, because love is love regardless of gender. I just found it really upsetting that my mother was so closed off to the idea of homosexuality and that she just dismissed it so easily. Both of my parents often make off remarks about people based on sexuality, being terangender and race, and it always irks me, but I don’t say anything because I don’t want to start a drama and I definelty don’t want to get into a heated argument about it.

To be honest I feel quite sorry for them, because they are so close minded. I can’t imagine being so bothered by people’s personal preferences and lifestyles, but I can imagine that it’s not very fun, because they must always be annoyed at nothing . I guess it’s just the way they were raised and the environment in which they were raised. Luckily nowadays people are much more accepting, and hopefully people will become more and more open minded/mind their own damn business.

I have no experience with any of this since I’m a straight female, but it must be a pain in the butt to have people constantly juding and poking at you for something that doesn’t concern them, and that people don’t have any control over.

Basically, whoever you are, whatever race, gender, sexuality etc… You are, keep being yourself no matter what people say, because at the end of the day, their opinion of you is irrelevant. As long as you are happy, don’t change for anyone.

I know this is a sensitive topic and I really hope I haven’t upset or offended anyone, if I have please let me know and I will adjust or delete this post, please know it was not intentional!

Thank you for reading!
